Within the boundaries of the Yankalilla Council area is the magnificent and popular Deep Creek Conservation Park which not only provides spectacular coastal scenery opportunities, access to the Heysen Trail and fantastic bushwalking opportunities, but is also home to a number of historic silver mining relics.
At the southern tip of the Yankalilla Council area is Cape Jervis, the port used by the Kangaroo Island Sealink ferry to transport thousands of visitors, freight and supplies between the island and the mainland across Backstairs Passage.
Beaches and jetties at Second Valley, Normanville, Cape Jervis, Carrickalinga and Rapid Bay are popular destinations for swimming as well as fishing with squid and tommies being among the popular catches from jetties and boats. Off the coastline of Yankalilla Bay is the shipwreck HMAS Hobart which was scuttled to create a reef and diving opportunity in the Encounter Marine Park.
Each year Normanville plays host to the New Year’s Eve pageant and a fireworks display at the beach.
